US News: Drunken Babysitter Leaves 2-Year-Old Giovanni in Critical Condition
A 2-year-old boy in the United States is in critical condition after allegedly being beaten by his babysitter who was reportedly drunk. The child, identified as Giovanni Reichert, underwent multiple surgeries after his mother left him in the care of a “trusted friend,” McKinley Slone Hernandez, on September 1. Despite the operations, the details of what happened to the toddler remain unclear, as the babysitter has not provided any information.
Giovanni’s mother, Stephanie Reichert, shared that Ms. Hernandez admitted to drinking but did not explain how the child got injured. Stephanie expressed her frustration, saying, “All she’s said is she was drinking, and he got hurt in her care. I make up scenarios in my head all the time for the injuries he sustained, so I wish I knew.”
The troubling incident unfolded when Stephanie received a text from Ms. Hernandez, a few hours after leaving her son in her care, stating that Giovanni had become unresponsive after a bath. Rushing to the hospital, Stephanie found her son surrounded by doctors, requiring emergency treatment for a brain bleed. Giovanni was airlifted to the hospital, placed in an induced coma, and has undergone additional surgeries.
Before the incident, Giovanni was described as a happy and healthy child. The parents, Anthony and Stefanie, are devastated by the turn of events, as stated on a GoFundMe page created for the baby.
The mother discovered her son with blunt-force trauma to his head and body. Ms. Hernandez, who often cared for children at an unlicensed childcare facility at her home in Lakewood, Colorado, was supposed to look after the baby overnight on September 1, but the situation took a tragic turn.
Ms. Hernandez has been arrested on suspicion of child abuse and is currently held on a $100,000 bond. The family is grappling with the distressing impact of the incident, seeking support through the GoFundMe page during this challenging time.
